Here's what they don't tell you about the cherry trees: No cherries. It's true, except for some places in northern Japan, theu don't bear fruit. Cherries are REALLY expensive.
Posted by: nils on March 18, 2003 12:09 AMIt's the same with blossoming cherry trees in the US, generally. The trees have been bred to put all of their nutrients into flower production, and there's none left over for fruit.
(...she over-simplified, as botanists the world over smacked their foreheads.)
Posted by: Clarissa on March 18, 2003 04:38 AMI'm from southern California. I don't remember seeing any cherry trees, but in my backyard was an orange tree (Orange County), and it was perfectly capable of pumping out both orange blossoms and dozens of oranges that made the best OJ I ever drank. So, I guess my problem is with these slacker trees.
