A few drips of color from last night's bon odori in Miyagawa-cho, which takes place right outside Mama's house. All the neighborhood folks, the apprentice maiko (younger girls in yukata), and maiko coming and going to their appointments. Does Peter know EVERYONE in Miyagawa-cho? The answer appears to be yes.

"Peter" is Peter Macintosh in the Kyoto links at right.
Posted by: nils on August 24, 2003 11:03 PMThis is perhaps smaller than any bon event you've seen elsewhere. It has to do with over a thousand years of Kyoto history, the locals gathering in small neighborhood associations to rebuild battle damage from the aristocrats warring ways.
....
Whenever a maiko came by, the apprentices would stop playing and line up: "Konbanwa, oneesan!" That sweet girl in yellow yukata, I took a picture of her in street clothes in May. (pink t-shirt)
i came here from yahoo search of keyword "bon odori". i wonder the girl that her face r painted white, is she a geisha?
plz forgive me if i am wrong. anyway, sayonara
