a small request

It seems I've been nominated twice (?) for some Japanese blog award I didn't know about, and even got a few votes. Thanks for that. The strange thing is, the leading blog as of Saturday night, something called "Kind of Crap", is not a blog at all, just a JET's personal website with journal-style entries. Oh, and he has underline tags on all kinds of things that are not links. Go ahead and look.

It would be embarrassing for me as one of the registered Japan Bloggers to have this award hijacked, even if I've never heard of it. Thus, I am asking you, if you haven't voted, to go over there and vote for Sushicam if you have just a minute to spare. Sushicam is only a few votes behind, and he posts some good pictures. If a dozen or so people vote from here, that might do it, as the voting ends tomorrow at noon.

Then come back here and report your good deed in the comments. I'll give you a pony.

I voted several times using different computers and e-mails. Jeff from Sushicam was in Kyoto in September. Did you meet him. I was in Kyoto earlier this month and met Peter and Trent. Next time I hope we can meet. Thanls for your wonderful site.

No, I didn't meet him, I don't know him at all, actually. I don't think he's on the Japan bloggers mailing list.

Where in Kyoto did you take that fantastic shot of the boat with the sake barrels?

I plan on taking another trip there when the cherry blossoms are out in the spring and I think that would make a terrific shot.

Thanks for sending some voters my way. I am pretty sure Kind of Crap will loose a lot of votes due to people voting more than once. The official tally should be postd any time now.

I'll bet your site traffic has really jumped since you were listed at the Asia Weblog Awards site. And I am sure that it will be a permanent step up, as the quality of your site is outstanding. People will for sure be adding you to their favorites list. I know I have.

Hi, the photo of the boat is the Takasegawa Canal, dug in the early 1600s for transpoprtation of goods down to Fushimi. It's on a small street called Kiyamachi between Kawaramachi and the Kamo River, north of Nijo. It's actually something of a cliche shot of Kyoto that appears in many photo books.

The number of visitors to my site ranges quite a bit, from 150-350 per day, or 500-800 when I'm posting lots of photos (a couple times this month), I'm not sure how the awards thing affects it.

Thanks for the location information. Yes, I have seen this shot in a photo book before. but cliche or not, I will be sure to look it up on my next visit.

I envy you living in Kyoto...

I love that place. It had changed a lot since I was last there in 1997, but still magical none the less.
