Did anyone else get an email from Baghdad Blogger Salam Pax's friend Raed Jarrar saying he reads your blog and announcing his own blog? I wonder if it was a mass mailing or he really does read it. Anyway, his blog Raed in the Middle is worth reading for the same reason Salam's was, he's on the ground in the middle of a war, and what he has to report is not reassuring.
He has commented on the Japanese hostage crisis.
Posted by nils at April 12, 2004 09:12 PMI got a comment from him in livejournal.. his writing is hyper like a preteen's! do they celebrate easter??
Posted by: Yuki on April 13, 2004 12:20 AMI got one as well, though I find it hard to believe he's reading *my* blog.....
Posted by: Kurt on April 13, 2004 01:23 AMI got one, too, but I wasn't sure it was authentic. I mean Raed writes on Salam Pax's blog--if he were starting his own blog, wouldn't there have been some kind of announcement there?
I know Salam Pax links to Hunkabutta--and that would certainly provide links to all of us. But, I thought it was strange.
Posted by: M Sinclair Stevens on April 13, 2004 08:11 AMOK, I guess it was spam, then. Speaking of spam, I finally changed the name of my MT comment script. Blacklist was doing an excellent job of stopping spam comments from getting through, but now they are aren't even finding the form. I was getting hundreds of Blacklist denials in my log, but they have dropped to nearly zero. Should have renamed the script earlier.
Posted by: nils on April 13, 2004 09:20 AMwell.. i DO read your blog, dear nils!
Posted by: raed jarrar on April 13, 2004 09:25 AMOh dear, then I apologize for suspecting you. My family back in the U.S. doesn't even read my blog, so it's quite a surprise to learn that at least two people in a war zone have been checking in. I must have become too cynical with all the comment spam I've gotten. It's good to know you are still there, and I was especially interested to read your comments about the reasons for AsSadr's growing movement. People need to get more of the big picture on this ill-conceived war, and your commentaries are useful for this.
Regarding your comment, "Does Bush really think that he KILLED all the “bad” and “evil” people there?" I think there is an important point to be made about Bush's worldview, that evil is something "out there" that we can defeat to secure peace and prosperity for all the "good" people. He has painted the picture in these terms several times, beginning with his speech in the National Cathedral just a few days after 9/11.
A VERY fascinating article on the subject in Kyoto Journal: Getting Beyond Good vs. Evil
Posted by: nils on April 13, 2004 11:51 AMI usually don't comment coz I haven't got much to say, but I really do love your blog, Nils. Wonderful photos :)
