Nanchatte maiko

There are several shops in kyoto where tourists can dress up like a maiko, have a photo session, and then tour around town in full regalia.

Kyomments

really?!

wow.

i love your website, and i'm in love with kyoto also. i'm planning to live there for a while when i get older... :)

i'm not sure why, but i always see this as being somehow... sacreligious, almost :^/ imitation as the sincerest form of flattery and all that, but still... i'd never do something like that, because i know they're secretly being laughed at, and also it just seems like tourist degredation of a cultural piece of heritage.

My friend and I would like to dress up like a Maiko and would like to find out more info. Do you have the websites or any shops that you would recommend?

thanks.
Steph

This page has a link to one shop with prices for the various photo packages http://www.planetkyoto.com/nils/archives/000776.html. There are several others in Arashiyama, Gojo, Gion. I have some brochures here I'll get out.
