Now featuring

The very fragrant Jinchoge (Daphne flower) has just come into bloom with its sweet-and-spicy-smelling blossoms. The sakura buds are getting ready to burst sometime this week.

I've always thought of the smell as astringent rather than sweet and spicy.

I wonder how the smell of the Jinchoge is described in Japanese?
