Alive In Kyoto DVD?

Getting Lost and Finding Yourself in the Ancient Capital. (QT 4.2 MB) Anyone interested in a multimedia guidebook and exploration-type DVD? I've been gathering 3CCD DV footage on a steady tripod for about a year (not the shaky handheld clips I've published here) and sharpening editing skillz. Any comments welcome.

Try this version (somewhat lower quality Sorensen 3 codec) only if you can't see anything with above link.

I would definitely be interested.

I really liked the atmospheric feel of it but I'm wondering how you're going to transition to the narrative.

It had a very nice, "video-of-logs-burning-in-the-fireplace", feel.

Very nice!

Sign me up for one!

Dean, you're right. This little collage is not part of the planned introduction or menu or anything, just a promotional pastiche.

The music sounds great but my Apple Quicktime player won't give me a video. Says there's a compressor problem. Do Japanese versions have a different compressor?

Posted by: Leonard Gump on July 23, 2005 07:43 AM

Well, hmmm... I used the default codec H.64 and there's nothing Japanese abou the software. Try this version (somewhat lower quality Sorensen 3 codec) only if you can't see anything with previous link.

That did it, thanks. I think I'll be happy to see your DVD when it's ready. Keep us informed.

Yes the second link worked, thanks Nils. I loved the "promotional pastiche", and sat with a nostalgic smile that came unbidden. Count me in for a DVD please.

definately interested. please let me know when it's ready.

We want one.

Nils,

I loved the .mpg. I would not be alone in purchasing the Alive in Kyoto DVD!

Posted by: Joseph on July 25, 2005 11:39 PM

Outstanding, Nils. I can only imagine the quality of the DVD.

I particularly enjoyed the musical backdrop. Are those tracks from FCE Soundtrack?

Posted by: badger on July 30, 2005 01:28 AM

No, it's from Freeplaymusic.com, which I should credit at the end of the video. I don't have the new version of FCE with Soundtrack, but I should. Music is actualy the scariest part for me, since it's what I can't do myself.

Hey Nils,

I've picked up a lot of ideas from your site over the last couple years. Wanted to return the favor.

I ran across this utility for generating the html for video embedded in your page for quicktime, real player, etc.. It worked out great for a little iPhoto slideshow I put on my blog yesterday.

And further, there is a informative little series on MacDevCenter (old though) with articles like this one. It's fun stuff for a blog.

Nothing incredible, but fun ideas. Enjoy...
